Weekend Warrior – Sessions 3&4

Don’t Forget:

Several simple reminders as you engage the practice work and practice test this week:

  1. Deception is Lurking!
  2. FINISH the test by using the 8 min 45 sec strategy
  3. Don’t follow your heart! It’s not what feels right …
  4. Diagnose before you decide
  5. Keep fighting for your Destination Score
  6. Stay up with your Practice Work commitment

Below you’ll find the assignments for this week. 

Sessions 3 & 4

 Monday

(English) Finish the English practice test on pg 12 of Boot Camp Manual (50 min)

  • Grade it with annotations on pg 56
  • Re-work the problems you missed or found difficult using the Annotated Test explanations on pg 56 in Boot Camp Manual.

Tuesday

(Reading) Complete the Reading test starting on pg 103 in Boot Camp Manual (40 min)

  • Time yourself at 8 min 45 sec per passage
  • Use the Reading strategies and Code Crackers™ to complete passages V-VIII
  • Check your answers and explanations when finished on pg 120in Boot Camp Manual

(English) Re-work/review mistakes on practice tests for English (60 min)

  • RE-WORKING missed problems and THEN reviewing explanations is the single most valuable activity you can do to improve your scores!!!
    • Re-work problems you missed
    • Only AFTER you’ve re-worked the problems on your own, review the explanations
      • Use the explanatory answers in the Red Book to review each question

Wednesday 

  • (English) Work on “Problem Area Concepts” from English Diagnostic Checklist
  • If you’re using the 2022-2023 Red Book, visit https://torchprep.com/englishchecklist23b/
  • If you’re using the 2023-2024 Red Book, visit https://torchprep.com/englishchecklist23/
  • Pick 4 concepts from your English Diagnostic Checklist
  • For each concept . . .
    • Read the Purdue OWL guided lesson
    • Print and complete the Purdue OWL OR Chomp Chomp worksheets
    • Work through the other ACT® questions for any tests you’ve completed for that concept

(Reading) Re-work/review mistakes on practice tests for Reading (60 min)

  • RE-WORKING missed problems and THEN reviewing explanations is the single most valuable activity you can do to improve your scores!!!
  • Re-work problems you missed
  • Examine each of the reading tests you’ve taken out of the Red Book. Using the explanatory answers in the Red Book, review each question that you missed.

Thursday

(Math) Work on “Problem Area Concepts” from Math Diagnostic Checklist (45 min)

Re-work/review mistakes practice tests for Science & Math

  • RE-WORKING missed problems and THEN reviewing explanations is the single most valuable activity you can do to improve your scores!!!
  • Re-work problems you missed, then watch the explanatory video for each of those questions
  •  Click here for video explanations for questions from your third Red Book Math Test.
  •  Click here for video explanations for questions from your fourth Red Book math Test.
  • Use the explanatory answers in the back of the Red Book, as well as the videos listed above, to review each of the questions you missed.
