Boot Camp – Session 2

A few simple reminders as you engage the practice work and practice test this week:

  1. GRIT don’t QUIT!
  2. Find the LOW HANGING FRUIT
  3. Use the Word Problem Strategy
  4. Keep fighting for your Destination Score
  5. Stay up with your Practice Work commitment

Session 2

1. (Math) Finish the Math practice test that was started during Math session on pg 22 of Boot Camp Manual

  1. Grade it with answers on pg 51(explanations start on pg 62)
  2. Re-work the problems you missed or found difficult. Only after you’ve re-worked them, use the Annotated Test explanations on pg 62  in Boot Camp Manual to help you.

2. (Science & Math) Re-work/review mistakes practice tests for Science & Math

  • RE-WORKING missed problems and THEN reviewing explanations is the single most valuable activity you can do to improve your scores!!!
  • Re-work problems you missed, then watch the explanatory video for each of those questions
  • Click here to watch video explanations for questions from your first Red Book Math Test
  • Click here to watch video explanations for questions from your second Red Book Math Test.
  • Each Red Book test question has an explanatory answer in the back. Be sure to check out the explanatory answer for each question you missed. 

3. (Math) Work on “Problem Area Concepts” from Math Diagnostic Checklist

  • If you’re using the 2021-2022 Red Book, visit https://www.torchprep.com/mathchecklist21/
  • If you’re using the 2020-2021 Red Book, Visit https://www.torchprep.com/mathchecklist20/
  • Pick 2 concepts from your Math Diagnostic Checklist  you filled out after 1st practice test
  • For each concept . . .
    • Watch the instructional videos
    • Print and complete the KUTA worksheets
    • Work through the other ACT® problems for any tests you’ve completed for that concept

4. (English) Work on “Problem Area Concepts” from English Diagnostic Checklist

Suggested timeline for Week #2

  • Days 1-2 – Finish Math practice test and re-work missed problems using Annotated Test (60 min)
  • Day 3 – Re-work missed questions and review explanations (60 min)
  • Days 4-6 – Keep working through instructional videos and KUTA worksheets (10 min per day)
  • Days 5-7 – Purdue OWL/Chomp Chomp exercises (approx. 40 minutes total)
